ABOUT

Carol Wainio has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, Galleria Comunale d’Arte Moderna Bologna, Stedelijk Museum, Beijing Biennale, National Gallery of Canada, Art Gallery of Ontario, Musée des beaux arts de Montréal and Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. Her paintings are held in major public, corporate, and private collections. She received her MFA from Concordia University and is Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa and recipient of numerous grants and awards, including the 2014 Governor General’s Award in Visual/Media Arts. Represented by Paul Petro Contemporary Art and Trepanier Baer, her work draws together diverse visual and cultural references in a discursive approach that is also visceral and painterly, creating structures for wondering about the nature of representation, history, narrative and the environment.
